4 Basic Tips to Healthy Lifestyle: For Foodies

Do you feel guilty after you had an entire large pizza with a side of Garlic bread, a coke and some dessert? (Wow, just writing about that made me hungry)

Do you want a healthy lifestyle but you are in a loving relationship with all the junk food?

Do you want to reduce weight but all those burgers and sandwiches keep on calling you to hang with them?

I can go on and on with these questions but I hope you got the gist of what I am trying to say, right?

If you belong to that category with chocolate in one hand and a slice of pizza in another while sipping on that butterscotch shake and reading this blog and thinking how come Gratisoul knows me so well? Does she have some sort of super-power? Let me clarify, that I don’t have any superpower no matter how badly I wanted to get the power to eat anything and everything and never get fat or sick. (God, I hope you are reading this blog too and may you grant me this wish, Amen!)

          I know about it because I belong to this super cool category too (Hi-5 my dear foodies!!). I mean I love food so much that I became an engineer in Food Technology, just to stay close to my FAV!! (#FOOD)

I’ll tell you about 4 basic tips which are easy to follow (No hardcore gym or diet is required to follow this) and that will probably help you to stay in shape or if you follow diligently, it might help you reduce weight too (Only if you want to, you are beautiful/handsome in your own sweet way too… #SelfLove)

4 BASIC TIPS FOR SELF-MAINTENANCE

1. STRETCH IN THE MORNING

Stretching for Healthy Living

Yeah, you just got a ping from your crush who wants to talk to you desperately, but first thing first, don’t reply to that text as soon as you wake up in the morning. (no matter how badly you want to start your dream conversation) You have to prioritize yourself first.

     As soon as you get up from your bed, make your bed, and stretch your body. Why is it important? To bring your body in rest to body in motion. You’ll feel energized to get ready for the day ahead of you and also your mind will wake up feeling fresh and ready to have an amazing come back on how to reply back to your crush’s message! (See, the benefit of taking care of yourself first thing in the morning?)

2. TAKE THE STAIRS

Do you use escalator’s and lifts in your place of work or anywhere you see it? Or do you use the stairs? I usually take stairs because that is some physical workout that I can do on my way and probably have a burger soon after that (Just kidding, but a bowl of Maggie can be a good reward for me to sweat myself on the stairs, don’t you think?)

     If you don’t get the time to go to the gym because of your hectic schedule, then you can change these little things in your routine. (REMEMBER, THESE LITTLE STEPS MAKE BIG DIFFERENCES)

For example, if your place of work or grocery store is not so far from your home, you can walk or cycle instead of driving. In that way you are benefiting mother nature and yourself!! Take the stairs instead of lifts.

These little steps matter, even if you don’t realize it. Just try it the next time!!

3. YOU’RE NOT IN OLYMPICS

Sometimes we go so fast and hard on ourselves that we drain all our energy midway and are never able to cross that finish line. (No, you are not in Olympics and nobody told you to run that fast, so chill!!)

     When we follow a strict diet or workout rigorously, there might come days when we want to binge eat an entire outlet of Domino’s pizza. But that’s not a healthy practice to follow. Eat-in moderation. Don’t cut yourself out completely from your favorite cuisine (they might miss you!!). Whenever you crave your favorite food badly, just eat it but make sure you do your squats before or after having them just to compensate those fries!! (I drink Green tea, yeah, I know it doesn’t work that way but it makes me feel less guilty whenever I indulge in overeating which is quite often #GuiltyPleasure)

4. HYDRATE YOURSELF

I learned it the hard way that water can cure you of plenty of diseases and protect you from getting ill. When I left my previous job, I was in a state of constant stress and anxiety due to which I experienced a sudden increase in my blood pressure. The doctor advised me to control my salt intake and increase my water intake.

Drink Water

     I disliked the concept of drinking 3-8 Litres of water daily. (I mean who likes to pee all day long?) So, initially, I was just able to drink 1L that too unwillingly. My mom got me a fancy bottle, and I started carrying it with me wherever I went so that I remain in a close relationship with H2O (#LameNerdAlert). And I didn’t realize that I started refilling my bottle thrice a day (#ProudMoment)

     Now I drink 3L a day, my BP is normal, my parents are happy (who forcefully made me drink water initially, thank you guys!!) and I have realized how important water is.

     So, go and have a glass of water, 100 points if you squat your way to the kitchen!!

These are some basic tips which anybody can follow!! I don’t like to diet but I can workout in the gym. So, eating in moderation can help people like me to maintain themselves!!

Do what works out for you and stay healthy!! But don’t forget to embrace yourselves just the way you are!!

Thanks for sharing!! Water is my big thing – I just never drink it! It’s so bad 😭 But yes – I always take the stairs. This will come hard in the winter when my class is on the sixth floor 😅😅

    You can start by having 3 glasses a day, then you can keep on increasing. That’s how I did it!! And yeah you will be able to take the stairs in winters too, haha!!

The simplest steps are always the hardest but I’m working on it. I love stretching before a workout but on rest days I know I should too!

    Do whatever that suits your body. It could be stretching, squats, jogging, etc. And yes, these simple and small steps motivate us to carry on and take those big steps afterward!!

Stretching and hydrating are one of the best things you can do for yourself. Even just simple stretches in the morning are enough to wake up your body!
