This Diwali Burn this Thing Instead of Crackers

Hey Gratisouls!! Diwali is coming and I am so excited because who doesn’t love sweets and all that yummy food and obviously not to forget all those cultural vibes!!!

For all the non-Indian Gratisouls, Diwali is a festival of lights and it is a Hindu festival to celebrate the victory of good over evil.

And that’s what I love about this festival. You get to burn all the darkness and start afresh. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness. But who doesn’t have darkness within them? Everybody has their own share of light and darkness within and which side they chose to show to the world is totally their choice. (Oh, I love it when I can totally change the topic from festivities to the philosophy of the human race!!)

We all have Darkness Within Us

Diwali Festival

Yes, no matter how much sweet, helpful or a generous soul you might be, but you’ll still have that tad bit of darkness which you hide from the world and only reveal that side to yourself or maybe to your closed ones.

It’s not a bad thing though. There are 2 sides to a coin. And which side you show to the world is up to you.

What is this Darkness Within Us?

Confusion

This darkness could be anything that you wish to change but can’t. Like your emotions to feel jealous, over-possessive nature, your ego, your controlling attitude your overthinking worse scenarios and disturbing yourself with it (Yup, that’s my darkness) or any other thing which disturbs you sometimes about yourself.

Now having these emotions/feelings/nature/darkness is not bad. But one should learn to control their darkness because if not controlled, it can take a toll on your health or on your relations with others.

Let Go of Your Darkness

Diwali Lights

Now I know that it’s easy said than done because duh! We are human not robots and there is no switch button that we can just switch off our dark side just like that.

But for the warmth of our relationships with others and for that missing self-care we should at least try to let go of this dark side from time to time.

If your ego clashes with the other person, try to mellow yourself down. Is your jealousy becoming a hindrance to your relationship? Try to trust the other person for once. If you are over-possessive about someone or something, try to give them their desired space to live. If you are an overthinker, try to stay in the present moment because that’s all you have and rest everything is uncertain no matter how much you try to control it.

Celebrate Diwali for Yourself First

Diwali Festival

Since Diwali is the victory of good over evil so celebrate your humble, polite, empathic nature and try to let go of your dark side. Because nothing good will come out of that instead of hatred and lost relations.

Prioritize your inner-peace over your inner ego. Prioritize yourself instead of your dark side. Because that’s what’s important. That’s the real you.

This Diwali let’s burn our darkness instead of crackers and spend an eco-friendly day with ourselves and our loved ones to totally embrace the cultural significance of this day!

I love this! It can be so difficult for me to not turn towards my dark side. I am working on not letting that side out. I most definitely have a habit of getting jealous and comparing myself to others, it’s something that I really want to get over. I’m

It’s good that you are aware of your dark side. And once you know it you’ll also get to know how to control it and not let it hinder your relationships. You’ll find a way out for sure!!
And everybody compares. It’s just that it should be a positive comparison that can help you grow.

Thank you for sharing Diwali! I had no idea. Does meditation factor into the Hindu religion? It seems like Diwali may be a celebration once a year. When I practice daily meditation, I try to focus on positive thoughts such as being ready to face a difficult day, recognizing my inner strength or forgiving others, to name a few. Nice post!

Yes, meditation is a part of yoga and yoga is a Hindu tradition. And yes, Diwali is celebrated once a year to celebrate the victory of light over darkness.
Meditation does help a lot to focus on what is important for our mind, body, and soul.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the same!!
