Don't Panic

How to Stay Calm when in Panic?

It’s pretty normal to panic when the teacher announces that she’ll be conducting a ‘surprise test on the spot’. It’s pretty normal to panic when your boss says ‘Come to my office, there’s something that needs to be done’. It’s pretty normal to panic when your partner says ‘We need to talk’.

But how to stay calm under those circumstances and avoid high blood pressure and heart rate? Now I’m not a doctor who will tell you to take this medicine or take these precautions, but what I can tell you is how to not overthink in that situation and just go with the flow?

3 Tips to Stay Calm when in Panic

1. Remember not everything will go according to your ‘plan’

How to stay Calm

Sometimes we plan all the time that things should go ‘our way’ and how we ‘planned’. But when they don’t, we feel that we are losing control of our life.

But you have to realize that not everything will go as you want it to be. You have to have an open mindset about things and people.

So even if you have a surprise test, don’t feel scared, what’s the worst that could happen? You could fail? So what? At least for the next time, you’ll realize that studying beforehand is better!

2. Try to deep breathe if you’re in a Panic

Deep Breathing for Panic

Deep Breathing helps when we are in a panicky situation. Because in those situations, our brain is not getting the desired amount of oxygen which needs to stay sane and calm.

And deep breathing helps to overcome that problem and tries to keep us calm and enable us to think rationally on how to proceed further.

So, take a few deep breaths before your boss calls you all of a sudden and just go with the flow because you’ll somehow manage even after hearing your boss’s news! Because that’s not the end of the world!

3. Drink some H2O AKA Water AKA Elixir of Life

Drink Water

Yeah, I know that I went a bit dramatic with this heading but that’s very important. You should realize that water plays a vital role in resolving most of our physical and mental health problems.

Water provides an additional source of oxygen when our brain experiences a panicky situation our heart rate starts increasing. Now I’m not a medical student and I don’t know why this happens but that is a normal human tendency.

So, whenever your partner says that ‘We need to talk’, instead of panicking and overthinking about every possibility, just drink some water, take a few deep breaths for a while and just go with the flow and see what happens!

Water will surely provide you with some calming effect and you’ll be prepared for what’s ahead of you!
