Since it’s a ‘choose your career, choose your life’ season for most of the students out there, so I thought why not help ya’ll out with something other than cliché career options that one has to choose from after the 12th. (You’re welcome in advance though!) This one is for all the medical students who think that they only have MBBS as an option.
So, for the first blog in my series of ‘Not so cliché career’, let’s start with students who have opted for the PCB AKA Medical field but have lost interest to go for MBBS but can’t figure out what other options they have apart from it. Gratisoul to your rescue kids!! I’ll tell you a few career alternatives apart from MBBS that you can opt for!
(P.S. The colleges and courses mentioned below are not the only options, you can find a lot of good colleges offering the same course online.)
What can PCB Students do apart from MBBS?
1. Public Health Worker
Helping the larger strata of the society, or helping the government to come up with strategies to improve public and environmental health, if that sounds something you can do, then you should research more on this field and go for it and improve the health condition of your country!!

– JSS Medical College and Hospital, Mysore
– Tata Institute of Social Sciences, (TISS) Mumbai

2. Clinical Research
Although MBBS is a common option for PCB students, there is another interesting field that you all can explore. Clinical research is all about determining and studying about how to prevent and treat various diseases. It also includes studying diagnostic products, medications, and devices for human use.
Some Courses for Clinical Research include-
1. B.Sc and M.Sc in Clinical Research
2. PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma) in Clinical Research
3. Certificate in Clinical Research
3. Medical Journalism/ Writing
If you love to write and you’re a medical student, you can opt for medical journalism, where you can combine your studies and your passion to write together and write manuscripts, research papers, and other medical documentaries for healthcare, pharmaceutical industries or make a website of your own!!
4. Veterinary Science
If you love animals and want to contribute your life taking care of them professionally and personally, well then you should opt for veterinary science and become a vet. Take care of our loving animal species and be a helping hand to them!
5. Food and Agriculture Science
I am a Food Technologist by profession and I come from Non-medical background. And this field of food technology is very broad and interesting and also quite refreshing. You can go with the R&D department, quality control, or food safety department and there are a lot of more options that you can explore in this field.
Some courses for Food and Agriculture Science include-
1. B.Sc./ M.Sc. in Food Science
2. B. Tech/ M. Tech in Food Technology
3. B.sc/M.Sc./ PHD in Food Nutrition
4. B.Sc. in Agricultural Science
5. M.Sc./M.Tech/PGDM in Food Safety
These are only a few options apart from MBBS that you can opt for after medical. You can always lookout for more options based on your interests because this internet is a sea of knowledge if you try to use it to your benefit.
