Follow Your Passion

Don’t Follow Your Passion, Here’s why…

You might have heard the terms ‘Follow your passion’, ‘follow your dreams’.

What if I told you that these terms have been misleading us since quite a time now and we just blindly try to follow them?

Yeah, I’m sorry to break your fantasy bubble but it is true. There is no such term as “follow your passion”, here’s why…

We all want to become successful, have an extravagant life like we are a part of ‘Suite Life of Zack & Cody’ (For all the kids reading this and don’t know which show is this, I must tell you that this was the show on Disney channel when it used to air some amazing and unforgettable shows (yes, I said it out loud!!)

But why don’t we always get what we wanted to have? Why following your passion is not enough when everybody says that you can win big when you’ll follow your passion because then you’ll be doing what you love to do. Then why aren’t we still owning a city of our own names? (That’ll be really cool and an extremely imaginary situation!!)

Why Following Your Passion is not enough?

Following your passion means that for example, you like to write, so you straight away start your own blog or to go a bit more extreme, write a book, without thinking what will be your niche, which platform you’ll use to write, how will you manage the finance, etc. etc.

Diving directly into the pool without knowing how to float first will obviously result in you drowning and crying for help!!

Take Baby Steps

Follow Your Passion

If your parents never taught you how to walk first, would you be able to run immediately? No, right? There is a process for everything.

Without learning in-depth about your passion how will you be able to follow it? You have to do your research first and then start the process.

WORK for

FOLLOW Your passion

Yes, that’s the right term.

Work for your Passion

If you’ve got a dream, it’s your duty to protect it from the negativity and judgmental views of the ‘society’ and work day and night for it. You don’t have to prove others; you just have to prove yourself that you are capable to dream and fulfill it too with all your hard work and dedication.

Give Yourself a Reality Check

Don't Follow your Passion

We often fantasize about how our life will turn out if all our dreams come true. But staying in touch with what is actually going on in the real world keeps us grounded and sane. That’ll help us to stick to our aim, modify ourselves accordingly and then start working again.

See, what others are doing but don’t follow them blindly. Make your own path.

Make a Vision Board

Paste the images of all the things that you want to achieve on a chart paper and put it somewhere where you can regularly see it.

Vision Board

Having a vision board full of all your dreams will help you to regain your motivation, work more, hustle more and that’ll eventually bring you closer to checking off all things of that vision board day after day!! (Having a vision board will not guarantee that you’ll be able to achieve all of that just by visualizing it, you have to work hard for it, come on there is no magic, even those magical movies and tv series have just great VFX!)

I have also made a vision board for myself!! Let’s see if I’m successful in achieving it or not!! You also try it out and, in this way, the entire Gratisoul community can be in it together!!

So, now whenever you’ll hear or see someone telling you to ‘Follow your dreams’ you should correct them that there is no such thing as ‘Following your dreams’, it’s ‘Working hard for your dreams!’ (*Wink Wink*)

I agree! Work for your passion is so much better. Because all passion is about putting in the work – except because it’s a passion, the work is done somewhat willingly.

I enjoyed this post! Maybe I should do a vision board too.

Thanks for sharing and I love the energy that comes through your blog.

Yeah, working for your passion sounds more real than following your passion. And, yes you can try out the vision board!! It is fun and inspiring at the same time!!
Thank you for your appreciation, it really means a lot!!

I thought that was going to go a completely different direction, like, if you follow your passion, your passion will just become a job and you’ll lose the passion for it. But it seems I was wrong in thinking that was how this post was going to go, ha ha ha

Haha yeah, that might have been a possibility too, but I wanted to deliver a real message than the one which sounded imaginary!!
Anyways, thank you for stopping by and sharing your opinions on the same!!

That’s an interesting way of thinking. I wouldn’t have thought of it that way. Thank you for sharing!
