Hey Gratisouls!! Today I want to talk about something which I have started practicing recently i.e. the art of ‘Self-Love’. Although it has just been a couple of days but I have already started feeling a lot better mentally and emotionally.
People usually don’t know the true power of self-love and think that anybody can do it. But in reality, it is the toughest thing anybody can do and once you master the art of self-love, you can become invincible. So, how to master the art of self-love? But before that what is self-love?
WHAT IS SELF-LOVE?
First of all, there is a difference between self-obsession and self-love. Self-obsession is basically all about your outer physical appearance. You like how you look from the outside. Whereas self-love is loving yourself inside out. It has less to do with how you look from the outside and more with how you feel from inside. Self-obsession fades away with age whereas self-love grows with age. The day you start loving yourself like you love others, your life will change completely.
Self-love means that you have to love all of your positives and negatives. You can’t just embrace your good parts and avoid your negatives. That’s not loving yourself completely. Think of it like this… Close your eyes and think about that one person whom you love the most. Do you love just how they look or how they are from inside out? Do you accept all of their strengths and weaknesses, their positives and negatives and still love them unconditionally without any expectations? Can you do anything for them?
NOW MAKE THAT PERSON YOURSELF AND LOVE YOURSELF LIKE THAT. ACCEPT YOURSELF AS YOU ARE. YOU SHOULD NOT BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF. EMBRACE YOUR TRUE SELF. LOVE ALL YOUR STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES.
Accept your dark thoughts as they are. Don’t hate yourself for having them. Every individual has his/her weak points and instead of loathing yourself for being weak, change your mindset by saying this to yourself, ‘I am not a perfect human being but I can become a perfect soul. I love all my positives and negatives equally. I love myself.’ Repeat this in your mind whenever you experience low self-worth, whenever a negative thought lowers your mood and kills your upbeat vibe.
Just remember you are worth everything that you selflessly give to others.
HOW TO MASTER THE ACT OF SELF-LOVE?
Now that’s a tough part. It really requires a lot of determination and mental stability. There are a few things that I do whenever I experience myself low on self-love.
1) Whenever I feel that I’m not in a good mood, I introspect. I try to look for the reason behind my bad mood. I know most of the times it’s just my overthinking that ruins my mood but I tend to find the root cause behind my bad mood and tend to fix it.
2) Sometimes when my negative thoughts try to overpower my positive ones, I have to calm myself down. I either listen to good music or talk to my friends or family. Not about all these irrelevant thoughts but anything except that. It is an excellent distraction and instantly I feel a lot better.
3) Since I’m a big time overthinker so it gets a bit exhausting sometimes to calm down myself and during that time I just look in the mirror, give myself a really strong and positive pep talk and BOOM everything around me feels a lot better. See, sometimes you are sufficient to change your own mood. Don’t underestimate yourself.
These are some of the ways by which I try to calm all of my negative thoughts and try to love myself more. Because it is in these vulnerable times, that one needs to love themselves. And once you start loving yourself, people around you will automatically start loving you for the amazing person that you are. I’m also trying to ace the act of self-love, and so should you.
