Social Media

Read it Carefully

Sometimes I feel like we have a lot to learn, to read, to see, to teach, to value, to soak in and so less time to do all that. In spite of having a number of meaningful things to look forward to we somehow end up wasting our time on unnecessary drama, binge-watching when we could have done something productive, trolling others on social media, encouraging those trolls by reading them and basically wasting our time when we could have used it in a more beneficial way.

Do you feel guilty spending hours on social media/eating junk and binge-watching movies when you know you could have done something more valuable? Comment below!! (I’m not judging you even if your answer is a yes, because I too find myself doing that a lot of times!!)

You should eat or watch and do other chill activities, but only in your free time or when you need to relax. And even when you are relaxing you should keep a check on what you’re consuming in.

I’m not only talking about junk food, but also the junk media which we consume nearly on a daily basis.

Junk Food and Junk Media

Junk Food

We spend our free time scrolling through our phone, consuming all that we see online in our subconscious mind. And before we even know it gets stored in our brain subconsciously and makes us act out in similar ways.

I’ll give you my example…

Whatever you Read, you become

I like to read quotes and thoughts about life in general (it’s not an example of junk media but how media can have an effect on our thought process) whenever I feel low on motivation. And some of those quotes really charge me up. But sometimes when you repeatedly read such things, which you should take lightly it can create a reverse effect on you. And you might end up comparing yourself.

For example, I was reading quotes on mental health and anxiety, and I thought maybe I have a little anxiety too sometimes. But having normal anxiety and dealing with major anxiety which is a serious mental health problem are two extremely opposite things and shouldn’t be used or compared so lightly.

We shouldn’t be using these terms lightly because people who are actually dealing with it only know what it really feels like.

Read it Mindfully

Mental Health

Whether it is a trolling video or any quote that you are reading, just read it mindfully. And see if it is serving you any purpose or degrading your character or your thought process? If it is not bringing you any good, it’s still fine. But if it is just making you worse, you should definitely avoid it.

It’s better to be safe than sorry! You have to take care of what you are feeding your mind in your free time. Because that’ll subconsciously change your thought process about things and people around you sooner or later!

So, read it carefully!!

Sometimes all I can manage is to be in a funk and not spend my time doing things that may be a better use of my day. Then I have really good, productive days where I do more — so for me it just depends on what s going on in my life. If I need to just sit and watch Netflix then that’s what I’ll do! Haha! Great post!

Yes, it should be a mix of productive and chill days. That’s how everything remains balanced.

Yes, I agree that you shouldn’t regularly binge watch junk just like you shouldn’t regularly consume fast food or skip exercise. There has to be a balance. If you need a break, then give yourself a break. But if you’ve done nothing else all week, you need to force yourself to be productive. I don’t think you need to set a time frame or schedule. You just need to recognize what you need to do when you need to do it.

That is 100% true. We often indulge in consuming junk media and junk food and later on complain that our life is so unfair. We should check our sources before we intake.

You must be careful about what is online. Always to check sources and never use social media as your primary source of news.
