You don’t need Discipline to be Successful
Hey Gratisouls!! Have you also heard about this statement that to become successful you just need enough discipline in life? If yes, then Hi-5 (because, same), if not, then what have you heard of to become successful, I’d like to know about it in the comments below!!
However, while I was reading this book called “The One Thing, by Gary Keller with Jay Papasan” (not an ad) I stumbled upon this chapter on self-discipline and I thought yeah, they too might be telling me about that cliché advice to become disciplined in life, but to my surprise it was quite the opposite and refreshing to ponder upon!!
If not Discipline, then what’s the key to Success?

Having a disciplined life sounds so boring because it seems that we’ll be living a properly molded and frighteningly trained life, which seems to be so monotonous and dull. I mean I don’t want my every move to be well-planned before, I need some sort of spontaneity too! What about you? Do you want to live a controlled life or require some spontaneous decisions too? Comment below!!
When we know something that needs to be done but isn’t currently getting done, we often say, “I just need more discipline.”
Actually, we need the habit of doing something. And we need just enough discipline to build that habit.
How to build a habit?

Building a habit is hard only in the beginning. Over time, the habit you’re after becomes easier to sustain. Habits require much less energy and effort to maintain than to begin.
This graph depicts that building enough discipline for a particular habit is only tough at its initial stages, after that it just becomes a regular practice that gets easier with time.

Nothing is that tough as it seems to be while we begin. It just gets easier with time. So, give your habit some time to become successful at it.
Build one habit at a time

No one actually has the discipline to develop more than one powerful habit at a time. So, if for example, you want to become a successful cricketer, then you have to develop the habit of practicing cricket every day and then just acquire enough discipline to maintain your habit.
Stick with the discipline long enough for it to become a routine. Habits on average take 66 days to form. So, don’t give up on yourself too soon!! Just hang in there and have patience and strength in your inner abilities that you’ll reach your goal someday!!
“All you have to do is harness the power of selected discipline to build the right habit, and extraordinary results will follow.”- The One Thing

I love this, though I have seen that habits also die fast. The perfect example is me trying to get back to the gym after a vacation. I always think is that discipline is what is missing from my life. But maybe I never managed to stick around for 66 days. I will give it another try, thanks so much for this post!
Haha, I can totally relate to that ‘gym habit’. I too have to force myself sometimes to go to the gym regularly. It is a tough one I must say!! And yeah, do try that 66 days practice ritual, it will help you out in some way or another!!
Thank you for sharing your opinions on the same!!
